Meet Noeline Taurua, Gympie, May 10, 2019

Calling all netball players and fans. Gympie & Districts Netball presents A Night with Noeline. Tickets selling out fast…

Whether you are a player, a follower, or just passionate about sport, this is a night not to be missed.

Noeline Taurua is Head Coach of the Sunshine Coast Lightning and the New Zealand Silver Ferns.

She was voted 2018 Sports Coach of the year at the Qsport awards last year. Now you can hear from one of the best in the business.

As a player, Noeline Taurua progressed from the Young Internationals to the Silver Ferns in 1994, making her debut the same year against Australia.

Little for a shooter, Taurua’s strengths made her a highly effective and efficient performer in the circle.

Smart, quick and often ahead of the play, Taurua was difficult to defend with her ability to off-load when in a tight contest while also being very accurate on the short to medium range shot.

Crafty and creative with the ball, Taurua played in the 1995 Netball World Cup and 1998 Commonwealth Games before a serious knee injury ended her career after 34 Tests with the Silver Ferns.

Turning to coaching, Taurua’s success is just as impressive, statistically being New Zealand’s most successful ANZ Championship Coach.

She took over the helm of the Southern Steel in December 2015, claiming the former Trans-Tasman Netball League Minor Premiership in her first campaign with an unbeaten record in the regular season.

She remains the only coach to lead a New Zealand side to an ANZ Championship title when she oversaw Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in 2012.

The team made the finals series in each of the six years Taurua was there.

The Kiwi mentor also boasts an enviable 72% winning record in the ANZ Championship.

Known for setting high standards and establishing a winning culture with a focus on discipline, hard work and innovation, it’s no surprise that Sunshine Coast Lightning athletes are thriving under her leadership.
