Special Olympics Australia offer the highest quality sports training and competition opportunities for people with an intellectual disability all around Australia and have been transforming lives for almost 50 years.
Providing opportunities to those with an intellectual disability to play sport, opens doors to personal achievement, pride and inclusion for some of our most marginalised and isolated members of our community.
The global sporting community was pioneered by the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister to US President John F Kennedy as well as Rosemary who had an intellectual disability.
Today, Special Olympics supports over 5 million athletes in 177 countries.
On the 24th June, Shady Rest is proud to accommodate a Special Olympics team of athletes from Gladstone participating in a football competition at Gympie FC.
